Launceston is my home, I love living here, I love doing business here and I want to see the city thrive. I was elected to council in 2022 to bring a fresh perspective, and four years on I have a much clearer understanding of where and how council shapes our city and its future.

We must foster a strong local economy, create more homes and housing choices, make responsible, future-focused decisions around the council table, and build a city where young people and families can picture their future.

I will do my best to listen, do the work, and make the decisions that are in the best interest for Launceston.

Please, Vote 1, Alex Britton, Councillor at the City of Launceston.

A Strong Future, and a Strong Economy

Launceston needs to capture the next generation of economic opportunity - particularly opportunities that give young people and families real reasons to build their lives and futures here.

Passed a motion securing funding support for the Tasmanian Turf Club and its 2026/27 events season, including the Launceston Cup and 24 other events across the year. It has the potential to create a framework where Council partners with businesses and events to market the city.

Connecting games and club activity with events and hospitality in the city, so visitors stay longer and contribute more.

Ensuring the Boag's site remains an icon and its redevelopment maintains that significance and positively adds to the city.

Better coordination of events, gastronomy, hospitality, arts and regional products so visitors have more reasons to stay longer.

A City Planned for the Future

Launceston is growing. We must enable and promote that growth, whilst ensuring our infrastructure, transport and liveability are maintained and grow with it.

Brought the Notice of Motion to Council, which passed unanimously. The project has received more than $500,000 in Australian Government funding and $1.5 million from Council, and is due for completion in 2029.

Passed a Notice of Motion enabling Council to transfer land to the Launceston RSL so it can build housing for homeless veterans.

Moved approval of the Rose Lane development, a 56-dwelling project that supports greater housing diversity.

Backed the City Mission housing precinct, a social and affordable housing development that will bring 36 self contained apartments to the city.

Practical neighbourhood planning and infrastructure sequencing for South Prospect, Alanvale and St Leonards/Waverley.

Investigating a high-frequency north-south route from the northern suburbs through the city to Youngtown.

Responsible Council, Responsible Decisions

I will not make bold claims and promises. A responsible council makes decisions that look after the residents of today and the residents of tomorrow. I will always do my best to consider everyone affected and make what I believe is the right call for the community now - and in the future.

Backed the 20% cap and a staged transition once the impact of the rating changes became clear.

Completing a comprehensive list of all assets, their condition and ongoing costs. Using the information to properly plan and budget for future repairs, maintenance, disposal and renewal.

Critical that this is completed soon. Every service across the organisation mapped, with appropriate KPIs attached, so we can clearly identify areas for improvement and efficiency.

Streamlining council services and administration using new technology and programs designed specifically for Australian local government. More efficiency into the future means more money spent in the community, not on administration.
